This week and next will be a book review: A review of the lessons from the book “Twelve Pillars” written by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener.

  • Personal Development-don’t continue to do the same things and expect a different result. The only way things are going to change is when you change
  • Three Dimensional Health– body, soul, spirit.Make sure that the outside is a good reflection of the inside
  • Relationships–all relationships need time, effort & imagination to keep them growing and flourishing
  • Achieve your Goals – important to write them down. The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it
  • You cannot change destination overnight but you can certainly change direction
  • Use of Time – every day has many opportunities, but only one best opportunity. Prioritise!
  • Surround yourself with the best people – don’t join an easy crowd; you won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demand to perform are high
  • Every association is positive, neutral or negative. To inspire committed peopleyou need to be committed
  • If the people you spend time with don’t have attitudes that are positive, they will rub off on you and keep you from becoming all that you can be
  • Successful people surround themselves with people who have positive attitude
  • 99% of life is attitude and attitude is greatly shaped by influence and association
  • Be a lifelong learner – formal education will earn you a living but self-education will make you a fortune. So:
  • Read books
  • Learn from successful people by observation
  • Reflect on your experience – what went well and what went wrong
  • All of life is sales – the key to having influence with others is to have others perceive you as a person of talent and virtue (i.e. with strong character & skill). Sell your products/services and yourself
  • Better to understand sales as the concept of influence
  • Income seldom exceeds personal development – what you become directly influences what you earn. Work full time on your job and part time on your fortune!
  • All communication brings the common ground of understanding – communication is working together to find the common ground of understanding. When it is found, they are well positioned to have tremendous power together
  • The world can always use another great leader – to lead others is to help them change their thoughts, beliefs and actions for the better. Managers help people see themselves as they are – leaders help people see themselves better than they are
  • Leave a Legacy – Live a life that will help others spiritually, intellectually, physically, financially and relationally. Live a life that serves as an example of what an exceptional life can look like
